IV Therapy/Blood Withdrawal Certification
Program Eligibility:
- LVN license or RN license or license that allows IV insertion or Successful completion of an approved vocational nursing or registered Nursing Program or equivalent.
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required, Foreign diplomas accepted if equivalent to U.S.
- Speak, Read, and Write English (Evaluation of English proficiency will be required for non-native English speakers).
- Register Online and Pay Tuition.
Course Objectives:
- To Provide 27 hours of Course Theory
- To Provide 9 hours of Clinical Experience
- Complete 3 individually Supervised successful venipunctures.
- Complete 3 individually Supervised skin punctures (capillary blood withdrawal)
- Successfully pass Written Exam with a Score of 80% or higher
- Obtain Certification in IV Therapy and Blood Withdrawal
CANCELLATION POLICY
*If student cancels there is a $100 non refundable fee.
The cost you pay will also include:
$695 – Class (This includes the $100 non refundable fee for student cancellation)
$20 Service Fee
$20 Licensing Fee (Rx HealthCare will hand deliver your IV/BW Certification directly to the Board of Vocational Nursing. The BVNPT charges a onetime Processing fee)

- Day 1 – Day 4, 8:00am-5:30pm
ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Students are required to attend all scheduled class/clinical sessions. Students will be unable to complete the course if they miss a scheduled day.

IV THERAPY CONTENT includes but is not limited to
- The requirements necessary for a nurse to start and superimpose intravenous fluids;
- Psychological preparation of the patient;
- Universal precautions for infection control
- Indications for intravenous therapy
- Types of venipuncture devices
- Types of delivery systems
- Types of intravenous fluids
- Preparation and immobilization of the venipuncture site 30
- Observation of the patient
- Regulation of the fluid flow
- Local and systemic reactions
- Preparation of equipment;
- Safety factors;
- Choice of vein;
- Choice of device for intravenous therapy
- Techniques of venipuncture
BLOOD WITHDRAWAL CONTENT includes but is not limited to:
- The requirements necessary for a nurse to perform blood withdrawal;
- Psychological preparation of the patient;
- Universal precautions for infection control;
- Blood withdrawal;
- Methods of blood withdrawal;
1. Skin puncture; 2. Venipuncture; and 3. Arterial puncture (optional). - Selection of appropriate method;
- Safety measures;
- Possible complications;
- Preparation of withdrawal sites.
Lab experience includes
- Preparation of equipment for blood withdrawal;
- Safety factors;
- Choice of withdrawal site;
- Choice of artery (optional);
- Choice of device for blood withdrawal;
- Techniques of venipuncture;
- Techniques of arterial puncture (optional);
- Skin puncture practice includes instruction in:
- Preparation of site; and
- Preparation of equipment.
